چکیده

We present iScale, a survey tool for the retrospective elicitation of longitudinal user experience data. iScale employs sketching in imposing a process in the reconstruction of one’s experiences with the aim to minimize retrospection bias. Two versions, the Constructive and the ValueAccount iScale, were motivated by two distinct theories on how people reconstruct emotional experiences from memory. These two versions were tested in two separate studies. Study 1 aimed at providing qualitative insight into the use of iScale and compared its performance to that of free-hand sketching. Study 2 compared the two versions of iScale to free recall, a control condition that does not influence the reconstruction process. Significant differences between iScale and free recall were found. Overall, iScale resulted in an increase in the amount, the richness, and the test-retest reliability of recalled information. These results provide support for the viability of retrospective techniques as a cost-effective alternative to longitudinal studies.

Developing the geographical space cognation through architectural experiences (Case study: A study of spatial cognation of primary school students in Tehran)

Since geographical space is a subjective space, due to the difference in the spatial cognation of different people, its perception can be changed from person to person. This cognation depends on the person's experiences of the environment and can be taught. On the other hand, the best age for this training is childhood. But this issue has received less attention. Therefore, the aim of this stud...

Abductive sensemaking through sketching

This paper proposes design sketching as a way to make abductive reasoning manifest and concrete. Through sketching, the abductive sensemaking leaves the domain of abstract logics and becomes part of the researchers or practitioner’s reflective practice. This practice is especially evident through incorporating sketching as more than a specific technique, but also as ways of applying design thin...

Footprint Tracker: reviewing lifelogs and reconstructing daily experiences

With the increasing emphasis on how mobile technologies are experienced in everyday life, researchers are increasingly emphasizing the use of in-situ methods such as Experience Sampling and Day Reconstruction. In our line of research we explore the concept of TechnologyAssisted Reconstruction, in which passively logged behavior data assist in the later reconstruction of daily experiences. In th...

Calico: A Tool for Early Software Design Sketching

In this position paper, we present Calico, a sketching tool supporting early software design activities. We first provide background information about early design, including the types of models designers use and the behaviors that they typically exhibit. We then describe Calico’s main features, and how they were designed to support these models and behaviors. We conclude with our experiences t...
